Spring Clean Scottburgh Campaign ‘Round 1’ Going Well!
The Spring Clean Scottburgh Campaign has been going extremely well with wonderful results and even greater support! Although the campaign has officially ended, the projects will continue until completion afterwhich the maintenance program will start.
We have removed over 200 loads of refuse and garden refuse during the last 5 weeks!!!
We cannot thank donors and sponsors enough for their support! Without every cent received, the numerous donations of plants, supplies & equipment and the many community members lending a helping hand; we would never be able to keep these projects going!
ROUND 1 – Phase 1
6 October – R102 / Blue Marlin Site
The 1st round of cleaning for the Spring Clean Scottburgh Campaign started in rainy weather but volunteers hung in and soon the rain moved on permitting a very successful day starting the clean up of the park.
This project has taken far longer than anticipated but wonderful discoveries have made it all worthwhile. A fountain that was built in the 70’s has been uncovered and we hope to re-establish it to working order to create a wonderful welcome to the entrance of Scottburgh for locals and visitors alike.
All undergrowth, overgrowth, dead branches and debris etc. have been removed. The area looks more park-like now, becoming a safer place for everyone to enjoy. Further plans are in the pipeline for this area.
The garden at the bottom of George Crookes Street is being established with the help of Bruce and his team from GardenXscapes. All plants have been donated by the community. Sadly, the large aloe tree fell over during the latest harsh winds but this will be replaced. There is still more work to do in this welcoming garden but each day we get a little closer to a beautiful, finished look. Donated cobble stones will be installed to edge the garden which will help with ongoing maintenance.
Our sincerest thanks to Fred and his team from Pearly Shells who are busy clearing and repairing their retaining wall and assisting us with planting along George Crookes Street.
To Conrad and the amazing team from PDM Construction for the 5:30am starts donating their time and equipment to assist us in clearing the space and removing loads of overgrown refuse; we can never thank you enough!
Goodman and the team from the Blue Marlin have been outstanding supporters and we have now been able to establish a garden near their main entrance for which we are incredibly grateful.
And to all our other sponsors and businesses who have worked with us at special rates in order to achieve our goals for this project, your support and participation is much appreciated – none of this would be possible without each and every one of you!
