Scottburgh Waterfall – A Beautiful Symbol of Community in Action!

Towards the end of last year, Keep Scottburgh Beautiful set out to systematically start cleaning, clearing and revamping several public areas which had been neglected for quite some time, in an effort to create a more welcoming environment for both local residents and businesses as well as anticipated holiday makers who would be visiting in the upcoming holidays. As a start to this project, titled the “Spring Clean Scottburgh Campaign“, the team and volunteers began by cleaning and clearing the welcome sign at the entrance to Scottburgh by George Crookes Street.

This initial Phase of the Spring Clean Campaign quickly led to the rediscovery of the waterfall, initially constructed in the early 70’s, since overgrown and neglected… It was then that the Keep Scottburgh Beautiful team embarked on a transformational journey with the Scottburgh Waterfall Project!

The task began with teams employed to clear dense bush and trim back wild edges. Soon various members of our community began to join the efforts, offering their skills, equipment, vehicles and more to help with the Project. Weeks of effort saw these teams & volunteers meticulously raking the park, removing debris, and organizing trucks to haul away heaps of rubbish and more…

Restoration of the waterfall itself has been an enormous task – it wasn’t just new pipes; a new pump was fitted, a top pond created to catch and regulate the water flow and a brand-new bottom pond installed to complete the water cycle all done with the help of local businesses. Grass and plants kindly donated by various residents were planted to reestablish greenery in the area after much of the ground had to be removed / lifted during the restoration process and beautiful signage, kindly built and donated, now adorns the area. Park benches & tables, lighting and security cameras make the area a comfortable and safe space to take in the scenery.

Though the official opening was held in early December 2025, restoration work at the Waterfall is ongoing, with teams currently tracing and fixing a few leaks to ensure no water waste and minimal water loss. However, this project stands as a symbol of sustained effort transforming the area into a future landmark of pride and beauty for Scottburgh!
